The Malawi Coalition for Kabaza Stakeholders Association (MACOKASA) has endorsed the government’s initiative to register motorcycles and enforce driving licence acquisition, saying it will help reduce criminal activities and road accidents across the country.
Speaking at Kamwendo Trading Centre in Mchinji during an awareness campaign on the exercise, MACOKASA National Chairperson Moses Michael Mwalabu stressed the importance of compliance among operators.
“This registration process is not just about regulations; it is about safeguarding lives and ensuring that motorcycle operators are accountable,” said Mwalabu.
He further revealed that MACOKASA aims to register five million motorcycle operators as official members to enhance order and security within the sector.
Kamwendo Police Post Community Policing Coordinator, Ishmael Mdoka, also hailed the initiative, highlighting its role in improving road safety.
“When operators understand traffic laws and adhere to them, road accidents will significantly reduce,” said Mdoka.
The registration exercise, which runs until 30th June 2025, is expected to strengthen security and streamline the operations of motorcycle taxi services in Malawi.
