Namitete Zitha is proving to be a formidable team, standing out from other teams competing in the National Division League, organised by the Central Region Football Association (CRFA). They secured victory over Extreme FC in a penalty shootout, winning 5-4.
The two teams had drawn 1-1 during regular time at Owen Malijani Chigurugudu Square in Waliranji, Mchinji. Extreme took the lead through Milton Kumwenda in the 37th minute, but Namitete Zitha equalised through Lawrence Chilanga, forcing the match into a penalty shootout, where Namitete Zitha emerged victorious.
Speaking to Mudziwathu Radio, Namitete Zitha’s coach, Kingsley Chisaka, expressed his appreciation for CRFA’s efforts in organising the match.
“This was an important game for us as it has given us the confidence we need in the National Division League. We have also identified some weaknesses that we need to work on,” he said.
Chisaka further noted that their triumph in the Big 4 Bonanza sends a strong message to other teams competing in the National Division League.
“Winning this tournament shows that we are ready for the challenge ahead. Other teams should expect tough competition from us,” he added.
On the other hand, Extreme FC’s coach, Trust Nyirenda, commended CRFA for hosting the match, saying it has intensified the competition in this year’s Chipiku Premier Division.
“This kind of competition is what we need to prepare for bigger challenges. It has given our players exposure and experience,” he said.
Nyirenda also acknowledged Namitete Zitha’s strong performance, which forced his team to fight back after conceding.
“They came with great determination, and we had to push hard to equalise. It was a tough match, but we have learnt valuable lessons,” he explained.
CRFA General Secretary, Antonio Manda, was pleased that the match was played smoothly without any issues.
“We are happy that everything went well. The teams played fairly, and this is what we want to see in our football,” he said.
Manda encouraged all teams in the National Division League to strengthen their squads for better performance.
“Football is about continuous improvement. Teams must work harder to stay competitive,” he advised.
He also urged clubs in the Chipiku Premier Division and Division 1 to prepare their funds for the upcoming season.
“We remind all teams to get ready financially for the new season. Proper planning is key,” he emphasised.
The awards ceremony for the tournament is scheduled for this coming Saturday at the CRFA headquarters
